Water Sac?

Yes!!!! That ugly gray bulging thing you see hanging out of Miss Jinx's shell is called a "water sac". Hermies fill up on water prior to molting (shedding their skin). You you see pictures of a molt as you scroll down. I was fortunate enough to snap this picture just in time!

Well.. keep in mind that hermies are *nocturnal* - this means that they are more active at night. So, when you are sleeping, that is when they wake up to play and eat! :)

Well... I am not an expert, however I would say if it did in fact shed or "moult" then it would be safe to say that it DOES have healthy skin. Moulting is a very fragile time for crabs - if they can make it through this they are healthy!

my crab just started surface molting yesterday. he is my largest crab (he's probably like 2.5 inches...), and out of my 5 crabs he is the first i've had molt. how long do you think this is going to last?

Well.... in my own personal experience, the pre-molt symptoms can last up to two weeks prior to the molt and the ACTUAL molt itself can a few hours. Be careful not to touch your crab now that it has molted. He/she is in a very tender state. It would be best to ensure that they are isolated though so that other crabs do not try to eat his sheeded skin. He/she will eat their skin for nutrients now! Its kind of neat!!! Please also make sure they have their own supply of water. Good for you! A successful molt!!!!

my crab that was surface molting passed on. a few days later another one of my crabs did a surface molt and was doing well for the first couple weeks and then i found that he had also passed on. he molted his exo, but was having a hard time getting his shell back to being hard. i know i did everything, but i feel like it's my fault. i have 6 other crabs... 5 have burried themselves and have been under for almost 2 weeks. IS THIS NORMAL!? i just dont understand how everyone could be molting all at once and i'm terrified they are going to have bad molts like the last 2!
